Neurofeedback
ADHD treatment with medication isn’t for everyone.
We want our patients (and adults researching ADHD who land on our site) to have access to all treatment options, and we know that there is no “one size fits all” approach in the treatment of Adult ADHD.
Our practice believes that Neurofeedback is another promising therapy for Adult ADHD, as a complement to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or medication treatments.
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a way of training your brain to work more optimally for you. It’s a way of using brain exercises to reduce impulsivity, increase attentiveness, and optimize your brain.
How does Neurofeedback work?
Essentially, you have two small sensors that attach to the sides of your head that track the activity of your brain. While this happens you either listen to music or watch a movie. As you’re watching and the machine picks up on your brain moving into a place of “instability,” it changes the information that you are receiving by either pausing the movie or music which causes the electrical activity in your brain to redirect and train itself.
Neurofeedback works by training the brain to emit brain-wave patterns associated with focus, as opposed to those associated with daydreaming and lack of focus.
Simply put, it is the process of measuring information, like electrical activity/signals, from your brain (neuro) and then that information is fed back to your brain over and over again (feedback).
The process of general neurofeedback trains the brain to use a different electrical response. It reinforces a feedback loop to create a more healthy stress response by becoming flexible and resilient. Your brain learns to adapt and respond quickly to environmental changes and turbulence without worry.
Who can benefit from Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback can help both people on and off ADHD medication in areas of attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
Neurofeedback training can also have a positive effect on the executive function system with improvements in organizing, planning, motivation, self-control, and emotional regulation.
More about treatment:
It can be done in the privacy of your own home unsupervised or in an office with a therapist.
It can be done everyday and more than once per day, potentially offering faster results.
It can be done with or without traditional talk therapy.
It is a completely non-invasive way to work on creating flexibility and resilience.
It is safe for all ages.
It is totally natural, using the brain's own power to retrain itself.
It only requires two (2) scalp sensors.
There is no diagnosis and no QEEG needed.
Requires very little effort. Connect to the machine, sit back, and relax for a 30 minute session.
What does Neurofeedback cost?
In office treatments cost $125 per session.
Renting an at-home neurofeedback system to use from the comfort of your home varies per session, but averages around $40 per session with a minimum of 20 sessions per month.
During your free 15-minute consultation your therapist will go over pricing options based on your unique treatment plan.
